Golden Gate Recruits is a specialized recruiting firm that partners with innovative startups primarily based in San Francisco and New York.

We think of ourselves more as career counselors - an "agent" for the job seeker. We are here to help the individual think through what they want to do and how best to get there.

We have done PMOs at Bain. We have worked in BizOps at leading tech companies. It is this unique perspective that allows us to actually help the individual think through what they want to do in life and what types of companies might be a good fit. 

More than anything, we just "care"  ❤️ We started doing this because we wanted to help our friends find jobs.


And we continue to get our kicks from seeing someone get a job at a place that they are truly happy.

Founder & CEO 

Phil Levine started Golden Gate Recruits when he realized how much he enjoyed helping his friends find jobs. He continues with the same passion and approach, focusing on developing personal relationships and ensuring that he treats both candidates and companies like real human beings. 

Prior to starting Golden Gate Recruits, Phil was Chief of Staff at a Series A analytics startup where he helped build and manage customer success, sales, FP&A and operations. Previously, Phil worked in management consulting at Bain & Company. 

Phil graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Talent Partner

Nick joined Golden Gate Recruits as a Talent Partner after realizing how much he loved talking to people about their careers and helping them figure out what might be next. 


Before joining GGR, Nick was a consultant at Bain, where he learned how cold the Chicago winters really are, and also did a stint at Peloton on the Consumer Insights team. Nick graduated from Stanford and when he’s not on the phone with awesome people, gets excited about Premier League soccer (Go Chelsea!), Formula 1 racing, and his budding love for tennis.



We place high quality candidates in quality jobs. We take pride in the quality of our work. We want to facilitate great outcomes on both sides of the job market, and believe we are uniquely placed to help both candidates and companies realize their full potential.


If we don't have the right candidate for the job, we will let you know. We understand that careers are long term fits and want to ensure an enduring positive experience for companies and their employees.


Starting a new career is a long term investment that requires training, building relationships, and learning a new craft. We make sure that candidates are passionate about the space and will function well with their new coworkers.

What you see is what you get. For better or worse, we won't hype up a company or candidate just to make a little extra money. We only work with companies that we would personally work for. We only work with candidates that we would personally hire.


We started this business because we were enthusiastic about helping our friends simply for the sake of helping out a friend. With a genuine passion for people, we ensure that companies and employees are pumped to work together.


We meet in person over coffee (or tea) instead of communicating endlessly over email and phone calls. Career placement is an important decision that is not typically solved through generic databases and internet searches.
